Coronary Artery Spasm is a Nightmare: a Rare Case of Multi Vessel Coronary Artery Spasm
Coronary artery spasm is not an uncommon event, but its pathophysiologic mechanisms followed by coronary artery vasospasm are not yet completely clarified. Coronary artery spasm can lead to sudden cardiac death due to ventricular arrhythmias or heart block. In the cases of cardiogenic shock secondly to severe coronary artery spasm, IABP is sufficient to support the patient’s hemodynamics, in th...
متن کاملAngiographic demonstration of spontaneous diffuse three vessel coronary artery spasm.
The spontaneous occurrence of diffuse three vessel coronary artery spasm was documented during routine coronary angiography in three patients with a history of variant angina. Quantitative angiographic analysis of 18 arterial segments demonstrated that the mean luminal diameter of 1.47 mm during spasm increased to 2.47 mm after the administration of nitroglycerin (p less than 0.0001). The under...
متن کاملPost-valvular surgery multi-vessel coronary artery spasm — A literature review
Coronary artery spasm (CAS) refers to the spontaneous or stimuli-induced transient, often localized and intense subtotal or total constriction/occlusion of the epicardial coronary artery, usually concomitant with angina pectoris with associated elevation of the ST segment on electrocardiogram (ECG). In this article, we present a literature review on post-valvular surgery CAS and report the clin...
متن کاملMultivessel coronary artery spasm.
A 60-year-old patient with variant angina was shown to have myocardial ischemia in two different regions supplied by separate major coronary arteries. Neither artery had significant coronary atherosclerotic obstruction. Ventricular fibrillation was noted during ST-segment elevation in anteroseptal leads. The attacks of pain and arrhythmias disappeared during nifedipine therapy.

Case presentation: A 37-year-old man was admitted in the early morning hours to the emergency department after experiencing excruciating chest pain. The patient was a heavy smoker who gave a history of several previous similar but less intense episodes of pain during the past 2 years; most of them also during the early morning hours. One of his earlier attacks was associated with sensing his he...
